Breakfast on Tuesday is always a guilty pleasure. No matter when I set my alarm for, my body knows that my first class is at one and will happily give itself another hour or two's slumber. It's pining for the days when there wasn't any homework to be done late at night or good reason to get going before lunchtime on a grey January morning. Frankly, I quite agree, but could really do with getting some work done before Swedish one of these weeks.
Regrets aside, it was a reasonably tasty treat. Just like yesterday, it saw the end of an era as I emptied out the last of the Dorset Cereals muesli I bought last week. I ended up plumping for it because it was cheaper than Alpen and had a more interesting box, and for the most part was quite happy with it. The trouble I have always found with muesli is that I'll sit there and pick the juicy raisins and nuts out of the box between meals. Usually, this means the last bowl is a soul-sapping drudgery of flavourless oat flakes, souring your memories from the days when the cereal was new and making you buy anything else for your next choice. That didn't happen today: in fact, this might have been the best last dish of muesli I've ever had. Ladies and gentlemen, this is a prince amongst mueslis, a notoriously difficult category of breakfast to get right!
Perhaps my Tuesday morning sloth is the result of the fact that I know I can take time and make this a worthwhile affair for once. I certainly did so today thanks to having some tattie scones left over by the toaster, which were soon hot and dripping with butter. I haven't quite worked out why I've come to love them so, but I think it's something about the sheer density of them and quite possibly the E numbers. Add to that a Greek-style strawberry yoghurt, and you can see it was a tasty treat all round, which is just as well since I won't get a break for lunch until three.
While the food front was definitely catered for, the breakfast lost out by being rushed. I already knew I wouldn't get as much work done as I'd hoped, but it was going to be a rush against time to get anything substantial done by the time I faffed about. There wasn't time to really end the meal properly, as I just had to segue into my room to work. All in all, a good breakfast, but with clear room for improvement - 4/5.
